Kentucky APRN License Renewal Requirements
Kentucky APRNs are required to complete fourteen (14) hours of continuing education each year. There are several one-time continuing education requirements. This includes a 2-hour course on suicide prevention, a 1.5 hour course on pediatric abusive head trauma if the nurse graduated from a nursing program outside of Kentucky or graduated from a Kentucky program prior to December of 2011, a 3-hour course on domestic violence if the nurse graduated from a nursing program outside of Kentucky or graduated from a Kentucky program prior to May 1998, and a LPN Infusion therapy course for nurses who graduated outside of Kentucky or graduated from a Kentucky program prior to September 15, 2019. Again, all of these requirements are one-time requirements. APRNs are required to complete 5 hours of pharmacology every earning period and 1.5 hours in the dual subjects of pharmacology and pain management or addiction disorders. Are there any mandatory continuing education requirements for Kentucky Advanced Practice Registered nurses?
There are several one-time continuing education requirements. Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
