Florida nurses are renewed by department in three groups, group 1,2, and 3. Group 1’s license expires April 30, 2024, group 2’s license expires July 31, 2024, and group 3’s license expires April 30, 2025.

Yes, every renewal all Florida APRNs must take a 2-hour course on the Prevention of Medical Errors, a 2-hour course on Nursing Laws and Rules, a 2-hour course on Human Trafficking, and a 3-hour course on safe and effective prescription of controlled substances. Every other renewal, a 2-hour course on Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace is required. Every third renewal, a 2-hour course on Domestic Violence is required. During first renewal, a one-time requirement of a 1-hour course on HIV/AIDS is required.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
