CE Requirements for Connecticut Nursing License Renewal
LPNs and RNs licensed in the state of Connecticut are required to complete 2 hours of continuing education each license renewal period, APRNs licensed in Connecticut shall earn a minimum of fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education within the preceding twenty-four (24) month period. When is the nurse re-licensure deadline for Connecticut nurses?
The license period for LPVs and RNs annual (every year) and every two years for APRNs, based on the birth month of the licensee.
Are there any mandatory continuing education requirements for Connecticut nurses?
Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses actively practicing in Connecticut and applying for license renewal after January 1, 2022, and once every six years thereafter, are required to complete two contact hours of training or education on (1) screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief, and (2) suicide prevention training.
APRN’s are required to complete continuing education related to the professional needs of the licensee in order to meet the health care needs of the public; include at least five (5) contact hours of training or education in pharmacotherapeutics; and include at least one contact hour of training or education in each of the following topics: (A) diseases, including, but not limited to, acquired immune deficiency syndrome and human immunodeficiency virus, (B) risk management, (C) sexual assault, (D) domestic violence, (E) cultural competency, and (F) substance abuse, including, but not limited to, prescribing controlled substances and pain management; and (G) on and after January 1, 2016, include not less than two contact hours of training or education during the first renewal period in which continuing education is required and not less than once every six years thereafter on the topic of mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans, including determining whether a patient is a veteran or family member of a veteran, screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief, and suicide prevention training.
