Course Summary

The topic of gastrointestinal motility disorders has grown amongst interdisciplinary health clinicians, including medical, nutritional, and psychiatry, and other members of the health team. Individuals affected by a gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorder will often seek alternative health care to treat chronic discomfort and pain. New research and knowledge over the past decade has increased the medical understanding of overlapping GI motility conditions throughout the age spectrum, of specific and overlapping physiologic dysfunctions with varied symptoms. As clinicians improve their general knowledge and medical management of the vast array of GI dysfunctional disorders, many of the chronic and relapsing symptoms that patients present with have a better chance of being controlled through new pharmacologic and other therapy approaches focused on enhancing gut health and patient strategies to cope and develop their individual GI health plan.
