Course Summary

Lumateperone is a drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. Schizophrenia is a long-term brain disorder that involves thought and mood dysregulation. Symptoms of schizophrenia can include disorganized, delusional and hallucinatory thought content, and affective changes that typically involve depression, anhedonia, social avoidance, distraction and poor motivation. There have been many breakthroughs in the treatment of schizophrenia and lumateperone is one of the newly marketed medications used to control symptoms and improve a patient’s quality of life. Importantly, the clinical studies to date report that lumateperone has an improved safety profile compared to other antipsychotics.
