Course Summary

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioral disorder that is typically diagnosed during childhood; however, it can be diagnosed in individuals at any age. Children with ADHD will often have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors, or be overly active. These children will often act without thinking about consequences. When ADHD is seen in adulthood, it is usually characterized to a greater degree by a lack of focus rather than impulsivity and hyperactivity, which is more prominent in children. Adult ADHD may be more recognizable and observable as adult responsibilities increase: the adult with ADHD may be unable to organize, concentrate and function, which results in impediments to the person’s cognitive skills. New ADHD treatments continue to be raised in the literature and this course will discuss a new drug, JORNAY PM® (methylphenidate HCI), that is taken at bedtime. This medication may be used to treat children age six and older and adults.
