Course Summary
Despite regulations and policies that have been implemented to control and manage the use of controlled substances, injury and death from drug overdose has reached epidemic proportions. Prescribers must continue to educate themselves about the safest methods of writing prescriptions and must understand how to assess and evaluate each patient accurately. Referrals and agreements must be in place to monitor the utilization of these drugs. Understanding the prevalence of the misuse of controlled substances will help to foster safer prescribing practices.
