Course Summary

Health professionals should be aware that many adults have limited health literacy. This is of concern because adults without health literacy are known to experience poor health and require increased use of the health system than individuals that understand health information and services in their community important to make appropriate health decisions. Nurses are able to support individuals that are overwhelmed with basic, as well as rapidly changing, health skills in their everyday lives and, especially, in emergency situations where health information tends to be more stressful to retain.
