Course Summary

Bullying in children and adolescents is a continuing problem and is overlooked as a serious life-long threat to an individual. A written anti-bullying policy distributed to those in the school community can develop awareness that bullying incidents will be taken seriously by the school and community. An anti-bullying policy establishes school interventions aimed at policy enforcement of bullying prevention, education and awareness campaigns, and includes student counseling when bullying occurs. Intervention strategies to best address bullying in schools vary depending on regional settings. The history of bully behavior and the known social beliefs underlying its prevalence, and the way social groups, community organizations, and schools address the pattern of bullying and victim response are discussed.
