Course Summary

Metabolic syndrome is a benign-sounding name for a cluster of conditions that could have a significant, and deadly, impact on cardiovascular health. The condition refers to the body’s normal biochemical functions. When these functions get out of balance, the risk of developing coronary heart disease is increased. Factors such as poor diet, limited exercise, and insulin resistance can lead to plaque build-up within the arteries, leaving patients at risk for a major cardiac event. Understanding the factors that comprise metabolic syndrome is key to helping patients mitigate its impact. This is the third in a three-part series on metabolic syndrome.
