Course Summary

Brexpiprazole (Rexulti®) is an atypical, second-generation antipsychotic that is used as an adjunctive therapy along with antidepressants to treat major depressive disorder. Antipsychotics are the first-choice drug for acute and maintenance treatment of schizophrenia, and brexpiprazole is considered primary treatment for schizophrenia. Brexpiprazole is not approved for use in pediatric patients. The pharmacological profile of brexpiprazole, its labelled and off-label uses, contraindications, warnings and precautions associated with the use of brexpiprazole is discussed, as well as a review of brexpiprazole overdose and a case study.
