Course Summary

Limited information exists on the benefit and risk of aripiprazole in patients with psychosis, however it is indicated in the treatment of depression and anxiety, bipolar I disorder and schizophrenia, as well as for agitation in autism and for the treatment of Tourette disorder. Other individual case studies are available in the literature that indicate promising outcomes with the use of aripiprazole, as an atypical, second-generation antipsychotic. Possible neuroprotective effects and lower adverse effects with aripiprazole use have been mentioned in the literature comparing aripiprazole with other atypical antipsychotic drugs.
