Nurses are key health team members that support patients that have diabetes to understand the nature and treatment of their disease. Knowledge of the current trends in diabetes research and medical management is important to safe and appropriate communication, interventions and advocacy for the diabetic patient and their family. Educating individuals about the type of food and diet maintained as well as other lifestyle choices is integral to diabetic health and wellness. This course will provide learning for nurses to be informed about the main types of diabetes mellitus and the less common forms of diabetes in order to teach patients, families and nursing peers about the right diabetic treatment and health choices.
