Course Description
This continuing education course addresses hydration which is a major topic in nursing. Maintaining a balanced body fluid status is a consistent objective in all nursing care plans. However, interventions intended to restore and correct fluid status vary greatly and depend on underlying medical conditions.
Learning Objectives
The participant will be able to explain why pediatric and geriatric patients are most vulnerable to dehydration.
The participant will be able to match clinical symptoms and laboratory values to states of dehydration and fluid overload.
The participant will be able to differentiate between isotonic, hypotonic, hypertonic, colloid and crystalloid solutions used in intravenous therapy.
The participant will be able to describe how to prevent and treat dehydration with oral intake.
