Course Description
Chemical dependency is common in the United States and every nurse, at some time in his/her career, will care for a patient that is chemically dependent. This nursing continuing education course examines the drugs of abuse, and treatment for chemical dependency.
Learning Objectives
The participant will demonstrate familiarity with providing a basic definition of chemical dependency
The participant will demonstrate familiarity with identifying 5 drugs of abuse.
The participant will demonstrate familiarity with identifying three signs/symptoms of acute overdose from these drugs.
The participant will demonstrate familiarity with identifying the part of the brain and the neurotransmitter that are involved in the development of chemical dependency.
The participant will demonstrate familiarity with identifying one drug that can be used for alcohol dependency, and one that can be used for heroin dependency.
